Contemplation of Lepus is a reimagining of an earlier work originally created in 2017 during a difficult period in Lauren's life. Revisiting the piece years later served as both an act of reflection and a challenge to reinterpret the original concept through the lens of artistic growth and technical refinement.

Suspended within an endless white void, a white rabbit ascends toward an unseen destination. A radiant halo of golden chanterelle mushrooms crowns the figure while simultaneously emerging from an exposed ribcage, evoking themes of decay, transformation, and renewal. From the rabbit's chest erupts the body of a deep blue serpent, coiling around the ascending form. Within the serpent, crimson moths emerge and disappear, moving between interior and exterior worlds. In many cultures, moths are considered messengers between the living and the dead, lending the work an atmosphere of remembrance, transition, and mystery.

Balancing symbols of mortality with symbols of growth, the piece explores the relationship between suffering, resilience, and rebirth. The restrained color palette draws inspiration from the simple yet striking combinations found in medieval art, reinforcing the work's timeless and devotional character.

As both a reflection on the artist's past and a testament to creative evolution, Contemplation of Lepus contemplates what remains when old wounds are revisited, not to reopen them, but to reveal what has taken root in their place.
